I can't remember exactly when I started writing this, I tend to be terrible with dates and times, but this has been in the works for at least 6 months, much longer if I really think about it. The book cover I worked up, I had 2 iterations of it, one was light and the other was dark, I asked my Facebook friends to help choose between the two, and that happened at the end of September, so the book must have been well in the works for me to to have created the cover. For the record, most everyone chose the darker more contrasty image.
Story Time:
I think back on my life growing up. I discovered books and the library at a young age, I believe I was in the 4th or 5th grade, in English class we had a weekly task, creative writing, we all had a spiral notebook and our task was to write a short story. The story could be anything, at the end of the week we had to read our story aloud to the class. Even though I was a painfully shy child, I secretly looked forward to reading my story. I think my stories were pretty good for a kid of my age, I had a very deep imagination and was quite capable of spinning tales. I remember that most of the other students didn't like that part of the class, whether it was the writing part or the reading aloud, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I kept my love of reading and writing through my teenage years up into my adult years. Though I did slow down on my reading and writing because I had to live my life, working, trying to earn enough to pay the rent. I turned to audiobooks to satisfy my reading habit. I was able to start writing again once we moved to our off grid home, this very blog to be exact. I started writing to my friends and family we were leaving behind to go live our lives. This honed my writing skills back to where they were previously.
So fast forward to now, I'm getting my literary vibe on by continuing to write in my various online outlets, more than I want to write about at this moment, I want to get back to the subject at hand. I have been working on this book for a while, and finally FINALLY got it completed, I am the queen of UFOs, UnFinished Objects, I have more than I like to admit. My kryptonite seems to be actually FINISHING something, I understand it's an issue with ADD, never was actually diagnosed, but it runs in my family and I suspect I'm afflicted too. And it's OK, I can live with it, I just need to get work on being disciplined and finish these projects.
So, as of yesterday, I finished this book to the point where I could get it uploaded to Amazon. I will admit that I had it ready hours before I was able to push that final button. I kept going back over the manuscript and finding things I wanted to tweak, a word here, a phrase there, I did find a typo in the website links I added at the last minute. The deal is, I was continuing to work and rework it, my inner perfectionist was being fed quite well, but that isn't going to get the job completed. Any other authors have this issue???
My neighbor and friend had texted me to ask about going on a walk, I took that as my sign, I wanted to be able to tell her that I had pushed the button to publish this. So I gritted my teeth and pushed the button. Nothing earthshaking happened, no angel choir sang, I got a screen that said the book is being reviewed and it could take up to 72 hours.
Now it's going into the second day, yes I am refreshing the screen to see when it says something other than "under review", I'm not sure if that means I'm going to have to take another step to make it go live or if it will automatically go live.
Now I need to work on getting this book formatted for a physical paperback, I am going to do a 6x9 standard paperback, and an 8.5x11 workbook size, that will have all the same text but it will have a 3 inch blank margin on the outer side for note taking purposes. I really want to go ahead and publish the paperbacks now, but I'm told it's better to let the ebook version breathe for a bit before putting out the physical versions. So I'll do that.
I'll definitely post an excited post when this ebook goes live on Amazon, I hope you, my followers, friends and family will have an interest in this book. Oh, I guess I should say what it's about :)
I'm sure as you can probably tell, this is a book all about water in the Bible. When the first spark hit me, I was sitting in church and there was a reference to something about water, I wish I could remember the exact verse, but that started a quick search on how many Bible scriptures refer to water, I was surprised to see the beginnings, how many actual verses were there. Honestly I even found scriptures that I was not familiar with, and I found some that were actually in multiple places and different situations but I didn't realize they were separate instances, I had put them together into one.
The process of separating each instance, finding the historical background, finding the other scriptures that refer to that scripture. I certainly got an education doing this, I do not claim to be a Bible scholar in any way, but I've grown up "in the church", officially accepted Christ as my savoir at 12 years of age, though I maintained a relationship with Jesus from as far back as I can remember. Reading the Bible was embedded in me from a young age. That still doesn't make me an expert, just an interested person, someone who has loved the mysteries of the Bible, loved finding connections that are woven throughout the Bible. I believe the Bible, even if there are parts that don't seem to make sense.
So, now I wait, refreshing the screen that says this book is still being reviewed.
