Mosaic Scarf Pictures

For anyone who had trouble with the video or just want to see more of this crocheted scarf, here are a few pictures, I have misplaced my camera so I had to make do with the web cam on my laptop, I even went outside on the second and third picture to get better light :)

This is done with the mosaic crochet method, I used 2 colors in Caron Simply Soft, one is a soft gray, the other is a medium blue, this is done with a single crochet stitch, I did a long I drop on every 5th stitch, once I completed the main part of the body, I added a slightly ruffled border in the gray. On the first row, I didn't use a chain stitch, I used the chainless foundation, it makes the first row just as stretchy as the last, you can find chainless foundation on YouTube.

Mosaic Crochet Scarf Video

OK, I decided to make a video of the scarf, sorry it's a bit dark, but it's the best I could do at the time.

Enjoy

Whew, could they have picked a worse spot to use as the beginning??? They do give options to choose from but believe it or not, this was the best of the 3. :p

I finished the amigurumi bunny, he now has a mouth and nose, I also finished my MIL's boots, I'll be sending these off in a few days.

Amigurumi

Here is my latest complete waste of time, well unless you count the enjoyment I get from making it and the fact that is uses up scrap yarn... this is my very first amigurumi, amigurumi is a Japanese artform or craft that translates to "knitted stuffed toy". These are more often made with crochet, but can be done with knitting. Anyhoo, here's my first one, a bunny just in time for Easter. I still need to add a mouth and nose.
amigurumi rabbit bunny

He keeps staring at me, I can almost read his little mind, it's easy, it's full of fluff and not much else. He is thinking... "I wish I had a mouth so that I could ask for a nose..."

Crochet Project Number 2 and 3

You have already seen some of my yarn work, the hats I made on the knitting loom, now I'm working on a pair of fold down slippers for PB, these are going pretty fast, I made the soles last night, I'm having to guesstimate the pattern, the videos I'm following are for a ladies size 6-7, definitely not PBs size. I made one sole using a larger crochet hook but otherwise following the pattern, it would have fit me perfectly, but that let me know how many extra stitches I would have to add to make it fit PB.

Now I'm starting the upper part of the slippers. With this pattern, everything is going pretty fast, that's one of the things I didn't like about yarn work when I was a kid, perhaps now I have more patience, or perhaps I enjoy the zen like qualities of working on projects. Either way, I enjoy it now, especially since I'm learning all of these new stitches, the latest stitch I learned was using the back loop, I'm in the process of finishing the convertible hat I told you about before, I'm kinda stuck on the stitching it together part, I don't like how it is going together, so I decided to put it aside for a bit while I work on the slippers. The next stitch I want to learn is how to do cables. Usually when you see cables you think knitting, not crocheting. I've been getting a lot of help from YouTube, I do better with videos than I do with written patterns, that is probably because I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to crocheting. Once I see it demonstrated, then I can follow the written pattern.

Oh that reminds me, I have a link to a free ebook that has 8 crocheted hats, it looks like some good patterns, here's the link: http://crochetme.com/Crochet-Hat-Patterns/ I'm signed up with them to get their newsletter, I like them because they have free patterns, lots of them. If you don't crochet, I'm sure you know someone who does, pass this along if you want to. :)

OK, I finished PB's slippers, they turned out pretty well, I ended up deviating from the pattern (I cook the same way LOL),  PB decided that he wanted more of a loafer look, so I made it shorter than the original pattern. The first slipper, I made and frogged several times before I got it the way I wanted it, the second one went much faster. PB tried them on and loves them, but doesn't want to wear them because he is afraid he will get stuff on/in them, he wants to add leather to the slippers, mainly on the sole, for protection. I'll post pix of his slippers soon.

I have started on my slippers, these are more of a boot style than a slipper style, I am already deviating from the pattern, I want the boots to open in the front instead of the back.

I finally finished my crochet boots, I really like them, though I know how I am going to change them on the next pair, if you notice on the back part there is ribbing, this ribbing goes all the way around and under the heel, I am going to not do the ribbing on the foot part, just on the top part of the boot. I feel the ribbing under my feet as I walk, it's not a major thing, but I feel it enough that I will change it up next set. I might also consider not having the boot opening up the front (or back) at all, the boot is stretchy enough to go on and off just fine. Now I have to figure out what colors I want to use on the next pair. :)

You'll notice the boots have a slightly different pattern on the foot part, I used the same yarn and same color but with this pattern you use 2 strands of yarn, this was camouflage color and it was variegated, it made one look striped and the other look blocked, it's just the way the yarn colors came together.
Please ignore the floor, yes I need to vacuum.

I will be making the next pair with no ribbing on the bottom part, only on the top part of the boot, from the ankle up.

The cuff can be worn up or down.

Now that PB has seen my boots, he wants a pair, I guess the next one I make will be for him. :)

Yarns & Such

I so want to make these! And I will, ASAP...

I don't know why the links will not work properly, here is the last video showing the completed boot,
here is the link to the complete set of videos:

I am working on a convertible hat, this one plays one after the next.

I am nearly finished with the main body, I've been working on it for quite a while, it does go pretty fast, but it only goes fast when I am working on it, my problem is I don't work on it when I'm at the sky castle, I only work on it when I'm away from home, I just need to get to it and finish it so I can make the Crochet Cocoon Boot Slippers. PB has been eyeballing my yarn stash and politely complaining that I have all this yarn and he has no slippers... I'm not "allowed" to buy anymore yarn until I have something to show for all the yarn I have right now, LOL! I have to tell you, it's hard to walk past the yarn display at the store when I'm in town. I'll post pix of my work when I have it finished.

Family Visit, Dogs and Yarn Stashes

It's been quite the month, my Dad has been here since the middle of last month, he left just this morning, driving the 500 mile trip back to the DFW area ( I spoke to him a little while ago and he made it home just fine). I am so proud of him, he's 82 years, he just had knee replacement surgery and he is doing so well! During his rehab, his therapist was amazed at how quickly he was healing and bouncing back, he had lots of motivation though, he wanted to be able to walk up our mountain to get to the sky castle, and he did it with flying colors! We placed a few chairs on the trail going up to the house, at first he did have to sit in each one to rest, but as I expected, by the end of his visit, he used the chairs less and less.

Our little dog Pekoe, a 11 year old long hair chihuahua, usually doesn't like other animals, but she tolerates my Dad's dog who is half chihuahua and half pomeranian, her name is Baby Girl. It's funny, because I call my dog baby girl too, when I tried walking them both down the hill, my dog would go rather slow, my Dad's dog would race around, she's quite a bit younger and way more rambunctious... so I would call out "Baby Girl wait!" and like a good dog, she would stop, but so would my dog, so I would say "Pekoe, let's go", slowly she would start walking and Dad's dog would start running, I would say "Baby Girl, wait!" and they both would stop... it was like herding cats, eventually I would get them both down the hill, more or less at the same time...

I've noticed the weather changing, getting cooler at night, I have been itching to get into my yarn stash and start working again. Last year I learned how to loom knit, this season I decided that I wanted to do more crochet, learn more stitches so I have been pouring over YouTube and have found a wealth of how-to videos on crochet stitches. I wanted to learn some new stitches and make hand or wrist warmers, also known as fingerless gloves, though they are more like fingerless mitts.

I stitch I wanted to learn is called the larksfoot stitch, it looked easy and pretty enough, my mistake was not watching the video AS I crocheted, I watched it a couple of times then tried working it by memory. Oh, did I mention I hate trying to follow a written pattern? I learn much better from visual sources, watching it on video, then if I have a written pattern, I "get it". Well, my pattern doesn't exactly match the original pattern, but I'm happy enough with it, now I have a pair of wrist warmers to help keep my hands warm this winter when I'm sitting at the computer in the middle of the night in the frigid cold.

I also added a little ruffled edge on the bottom of the wrist warmers, it adds a bit of fun and interest and it lets me know which side goes where. The whole thing is very easy to make, I just crocheted a chain stitch using 4 chains per section until I had it long enough to comfortably go around my hand and wrist. I used 2 different yarn colors to make the pattern, I crocheted the (modified) larksfoot stitch until I had a rectangle long enough to go from my knuckles to just below my wrist, I could have made it longer if I had wished. Then I sewed up the sides leaving a space for my thumb. After I had it stitched together, I added the ruffled edge on the wrist side of the wrist warmers.

I might make some more wrist warmers, this time following the pattern a little more closely. I'll post more pictures of whatever I make.
