Yuck, Political Stuff...

OK, I really hoped that I would be able to stay away from political stuff, at least I don't want it to become the main focus of my blog, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I read this today and it scares the hell out of me, if this is true, or even partially true.. well I'll leave it up to you to come up with your own opinion. I got the link from http://www.internet-grocer.net
actually from their newsletter, I strongly suggest that if you aren't already signed up, that you get that way. Here is the link and the message (sorry for the format, that is the only way I could legally post the message here, if it's too much to deal with, just click on the link to read the whole thing):

  1. I read the article and didn't see anything to fear. The Obama's are encouraging people to work in their community. That's good, right? Isn't that what the Republicans and Libertarians have advocated for years? Keep it local.

They're encouraging people to protest what they feel is wrong. That's good, right? Better to complain than let the government and corporations do whatever they want.

Sure, from the viewpoint of those in charge, having people (radicals!) become involved in their communities and become involved in politics is bad, but we're not in charge are we?

As I said, it's up to you to make up your own mind about what you read, I'm just glad I live in a country where it's still legal to have and publicly display your opinions. :)

  3. Hi Wretha-

Found your blog a couple of weeks ago and have read all your entries, with their comments. I commend you and Bob for living your dream. My husband and I hope to move to the country one day soon and live off-grid also!

Usually I don't comment on blogs, but I felt I needed to point out that the article you posted is not a news story, it's only an opinion of one individual, as it was taken from the Editorial/Opinions section.

I consider myself an Independent. I voted for W twice. The war in Afghanistan/Iraq has soured my opinion of Bush because I don't think it was handled correctly (no withdrawal plan whatsoever!). I still think he's a good man, but he has not done a very good job in office (BTW I lived in New Orleans when Katrina hit - lost everything - house - neighbors - job - neighborhood - city, and even after that debacle, I still had faith in our President!)

Obama interests me. I haven't decided who I'll vote for, but I'm definitely leaning towards Obama simply because of his policies on sustainable energy and because of his call to service for America's youth. I believe all young people should be required to perform service in their community or in our military. Volunterism encourages so many positive changes for all Americans, but the youth is our future and I believe the key to solving our nations problems lies in their hands.

I have the utmost respect for McCain, for his service to his country (my son was in the Air Force). His age and health, for me, are troublesome, especially now he has selected Palin as the VP running mate. Not so sure about her now....she seems like a lovely woman, but I'm totally against drilling in Alaska (I live near Galveston and have watched our beaches turn to crap from all the oil rigs over the past 40 years). Also, she's a mother of a 4 month old baby with special needs, and I may be a little old fashioned, but I think that baby needs her more than her country. It's a little sexist I guess, but as a mother, that's how I see it.

So, we are so fortunate, I believe, to have 2 good quality candidates to choose from. But, because envornmental issues are so important for me, that's probably going to be the issue that I'll base my vote on.

Anyway, just wanted to share my opinion, just like the author of the article you posted....it's just an opinion, not a fact.

Good luck to you both! Looking forward to more posts and following your adventures in the high desert! Oh, and I noticed the other night (while reading your blog) that your picture at the top changes from day to night! I love that!

    Best wishes,
    Renee

Thanks for your passionate reply, I can appreciate your point of view, and I appreciate you taking the time to comment, I love comments!

Thanks for reading my blog, it's been a "labor of love", without the labor part, I enjoy writing it, the changing picture on top is fun, I enjoyed figuring out how to do it (with the help of some other bloggers), as always I take something and try to make it work better.

  5. Whether opinion or honest-to-goodness-truth, the first time I heard about Obama's "national service corps" scared the you-know-what outa me.

I love my freedom, and I want everyone to be able to raise their children the best way they know how (whether or not I agree with those methods). What I don't agree with is the kind of indoctrination these so-called PC organizations give.

Thanks so much for posting this!

  6. What's scary about a national service program? We've had many over the years, from the CCC in the 1930s to VISTA and Americorps now.

To be honest, what I'd love to see is the draft re-instated. I'm tired of poor kids being the ones to go off to die fighting needless wars while rich kids go to college. Iraq is all about the oil, not national security, and if we go to war with Iran that'll be the reason, too. No one should have to die just to help multi-national corporations make more money.

Personally I have nothing against volunteering, let's just keep it privatized, not government sponsored. String theory isn't just for scientists, there are always stings attached somewhere, I just don't care for what's on the other end of those strings. Socialism, like communism is only good on paper.
