Doodling Around...

Ever hear of Zentangles? No? I'll bet you doodled as a kid, remember having to put paper covers on your school books? Didn't you draw designs on them? If you did, then you will understand Zentangles, it's the next step in doodling.

I have started doing this as a quick and cheap hobby, it's something I can do while waiting in the various waiting rooms I end up in when I take my ladies to their dr appts, next time I'm in town I am going to look for a small journal or art pad and some various sized ink pens/markers/liners.

I'm not into scrapbooking, but I know many who are, this would pair very well with scrapbooking, you can create frames for your pictures or just add interest to the page. This is something that is very portable, you can take a small unlined notepad or artbook with you and a couple of pens, I'm thinking one of those double ended Sharpie markers (thin one one end, thick on the other) and you can do this while standing in line at the pharmacy, while in the waiting room of any office, sitting in the car waiting for the kids to get out of school... what a great way to relax and be creative at the same time.

To do this, the supplies are simple, a pen and paper, that's it! Of course, you can really go crazy on this and get more supplies, more pens (thick and thin lines, different colors), fun paper (textured, smooth, large, small, colored or white...), you can even color your doodles with markers, colored pencils, crayons, watercolor... it's up to you how far you want to go with this fun craft!

Here are some creations, they may look complex, but in reality they are very simple, done in step by step fashion, anyone can do these, you can click on each image and it will take you to the website where these images live. These are not my doodles.

There are so many Zentangle or Zendoodle images, it's mind boggling! I am drawn (pun intended) to the ones with shading, the ones that appear to have depth, I also like the ones that are colored in.
You can't draw you say? It doesn't matter, there are few rules here, and there are no mistakes, if you can scribble, you can do this! Here are a few videos demonstrating how it's done:

There are some great Zentangle books out there for those of you who are interested and want to take it to the next step:

What do you think? Have you ever done this before? Is this something you would like to do???
