Yet Another Visit,.,

OK, am I being paranoid now? I received a visit (on my other off grid blog) from none other than the Department of Homeland Security, or it was US Customs and Border Protection, when I looked up the "visitor", it gave me both. Go here to see a laundry list of the other nameservers being hosted under this same domain, it's some scary stuff.
http://www.robtex.com/dns/cbp.dhs.gov.html

I am completely at a loss about this visit, I am giving this visitor the benefit of the doubt that they are visiting for purely personal reasons (having nothing to do with their job) and I obscured the IP address, I still have a copy of the original image though containing the IP address.

I shouldn't feel strange about this, I'm doing nothing wrong or illegal, in fact, I'm doing what most people SHOULD be aiming toward, I'm shrinking my "carbon footprint", I'm using less of everything, I'm at virtually zero pollution... I stay close to home, I haven't purchased anything that would raise a red flag with any government agencies, I am trying to teach other people (if they are interested) how to live like we do, closer to the Earth... heck, I even filed my taxes even though I didn't have enough "income" to have to pay in, and what I did claim, was barter and I could have skipped putting that down as they would have had no way of knowing about it, but I went ahead and claimed it. Our current POTUS should be happy with what I am doing, I did some research on our current POTUS, and found this speech, Keynote Address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention | July 27, 2004, this is an interesting excerpt from that speech:

That is the true genius of America, a faith in the simple dreams of its people, the insistence on small miracles. That we can tuck in our children at night and know they are fed and clothed and safe from harm. That we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe or hiring somebody's son. That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will he counted - or at least, most of the time
Let's hope he holds these same beliefs now that he holds the highest office.

I don't like feeling like I'm a criminal, or worse, when I have done nothing wrong, everything I do is 100% legal. Being a Conservative does not make me a criminal or threat to this nation.

I have more I'd like to say, but now I'm concerned about opening a can of worms and making myself an even bigger (potential) target.

So I don't know what to think about all of this, am I being paranoid?

<<<>>>

I think I didn't make myself clear in my message, I don't think the government is "spying" on me, they have come to my site in the open, they haven't tried to disguise their visits. I fully realize that if they wanted to spy on me without my knowledge, they are fully capable of doing so, whether or not they are "spying" on me, this isn't what I'm concerned about.

Think about this, what if a car from the homeland security was parked outside your house and were openly looking at your house, I feel like most people would be disturbed by that, even though they have done nothing wrong, it would still make you wonder why they were there.

In the current political situation, with people being classified as potential domestic terrorists, their only crime is being a Conservative, Christian who listens to Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk shows, yeah I am a bit concerned when the Department of Homeland Security visits my site, am I on this list of potential domestic terrorists now?

Wretha

Thanks for visiting!

Yes Wretha, you are. A couple of things: if DHS wanted to spy on your blog, they'd do it in a less-obvious way and you gain nothing by obscuring the IP address when you have "Visitor: bcp1.cdp.dhs.gov" clearly visible.

  2. I SINCERELY hope you are right, so why DO you think they visited my blog? Give me some other possible reasons why they would pop in?

  3. I also never said they were "spying" on my blog, I realize that anyone who wanted to could visit my blog without leaving a trace, including the government. I would just like to know WHY they visited my blog, I would like to think it's a bored employee or someone who is truly interested in what I am doing.

I obscured the IP address to protect the privacy of the person who visited my site, having "Visitor: bcp1.cdp.dhs.gov" visible only identifies the host/domain.

  4. Could be someone who works there who is interested in what you are doing regardless of who pays their paycheck. Work doesn't always define who we are. Sometimes it's just a paycheck.

  5. Anon is simply mistaken. Remember that these are folks who 1. cannot excel at anything so become bureaucrats. and 2. Are so profoundly arrogant that they think that they can get away with anything (sadly they do have reason to believe this..)

As for the current admin having any interest in free speech well check this out: http://wendymcelroy.com/news.php?item.2452.1

Clearly this effort to label anyone who dares to disagree a "terrorist" so that even more action can be taken against the person is in no way friendly to free speech, or liberty in any fashion. And this is what they are bragging about.. makes you wonder what they are keeping secret..

You are not at all being paranoid. You are being naturally cautious, and if anything overly generous to the powers that be.

  6. I'll go look at my logs. I'll let you know what I find. I think it woyld be interesting to see if you can find what posts-pages they visited.

  7. Yeah Dragon, I was wondering if they visited anyone else I know. What do you use for your stats? I use Extreme Tracking, it's good but only shows me the last 20 visitors, on this blog, that happens pretty quickly, on my other blog, I have fewer daily visitors (because I haven't really started it yet), so it takes much longer to log 20 or more visitors. I wouldn't mind having a second tracker that saves more data for a longer period of time.

Back when I had my own domain, my hosting included good stats, man do I miss that right about now...

Let me know what you find.

I do hope this is just a whole lot of nothing...

  8. Confessions, that is what I sincerely hope is the case, I would welcome anyone who wants to visit, as long as their motivations are right.

Storm I don't know, I hope I am wondering/worrying about nothing... It is just disconcerting to see Uncle Big Bro, especially that branch, looking at me.

  9. Maybe why authorities MIGHT freak out with your website is your topics include ways how to live 'lighter on the earth', ways which when discussed, may convince others that the 'work hard 'till you die in the traces' ethic just may be worth reconsidering. I know a lot of people who are getting downright frustrated with the way The System is set up.

It seems the people who worked hard to stay out of debt are now being tapped to fund the people who took advantage of the system and are now help virtually blameless for the debacle.

Just sayin' is all - I enjoy reading your blog, I think you are doing great.

  10. anon#2, possibly right, becoming more independent might not be in the best interest of those in power right now, which is insane, becoming more independent makes you lots more stable and much less likely to go out and run up huge debts just to default on those debts (credit cards, mortgages you can't afford, unnecessary loans...)

What's wrong with living within your means? What's wrong with being happy with less?

    Thanks for writing. :)

  11. Storm, please, I come from a long line of people (of whom I'm very proud) who you describe, and I quote you, 1. cannot excel at anything so become bureaucrats. and 2. Are so profoundly arrogant that they think that they can get away with anything (sadly they do have reason to believe this..)" I really hate when people (you?) make broad judgements about others they do not know. Everyone of them fought for uphold the freedom which you now enjoy.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest... Wretha, it's probably just someone who wants to do exactly what you're doing. Like another commenter said, a paycheck does not define our desires, our dreams. What better way to learn about this lifestyle than to find an expert, like you, and read as much as possible? If they wanted to find out what you're up to or get into your business, there are much better more secure and secretive ways than announcing a visit by appearing on a public blogsite.

  12. G, I do hope you are right. I don't feel like the are "spying" on me, they came in the open (at least this time) and didn't try to hide their presence.

Let's put it this way, if the DHS was parked out in front of your house, looking at your house, even though you are guilty of nothing, I believe that would still be disconcerting for most people.

At any rate, I do hope you are right about this whole thing, if it is someone who is interested in my lifestyle, I wish they would use their home computers to visit me instead of using government computers. :P
